Peter Marino announces opening art foundation in Southampton, NY

Jul. 2018

July 27th 2018 – Peter Marino’s announcement during the opening reception for Counterpoint: Selections from The Peter Marino Collection at the Southampton Arts Center was the first public reveal for Peter Marino Art Foundation.  The foundation will be housed at 11 Jobs Lane, adjacent to SAC in the village of Southampton.

Peter Marino Art Foundation will feature a permanent public exhibition showcasing artworks from The Peter Marino Collection and rotating shows from guest artists and collaborators for the Southampton community.  The space will offer educational programming aimed to engage visitors, younger audiences, and students, working in tandem with Southampton Arts Center.

The 2 story, nearly 8,000 sq ft building at 11 Jobs Lane was designed in 1895 by R.H. Robertson and opened to the public the following year as the Rogers Memorial Library.  Marino intends to restore the building with construction beginning in September 2019.  Marino is well known both as a patron of the arts and for his architectural work integrating site specific art commissions - a cross-disciplinary practice he is recognized for pioneering.

In the words of Southampton Arts Center Executive Director, Tom Dunn, Counterpoint (on view through Sept 23rd, 2018) ‘provides one of the largest assemblages of world-class contemporary art displayed publicly on the East End’.  While Counterpoint offers Marino’s first cultural contribution to Southampton, Peter Marino Art Foundation demonstrates Marino’s intention to integrate his lifelong involvement with art across disciplines and mediums with the Southampton community.
